Job Description : FC UGANDA Location Kampala, Uganda with travel as required Summary Of Position Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Financial Controller will lead the finance team and be responsible for the recording, adjustment, reconciliation, and reporting of all financial information. This position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company, which includes the development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. This position includes responsibility for all Uganda portfolio companies. Responsibilities Financial Management · Responsible for the preparation of company financial reports based on regulatory and legal requirements for both the company. · Maintain an accounting software system and initiate periodic improvements. · Payroll management. · Analyse company project performance and ROI. · Provide guidance to the finance functions of the company. · Oversee the issuance of financial information. · Develop and implement improvements to financial controls. · Implement and maintain accounting policies and processes in compliance with both IFRS and local regulatory guidance. · Overall responsibility for development and implementation of appropriate internal control systems and financial procedures across Uganda and ensure adherence to the Group policies. · Implement financial management operational best practices and oversee the company's transaction processing systems. · Identify financial risks and take part in developing strategies to overcome these risks. · Maintain appropriate company documentation and compliance with regulatory and tax-related requirements. · Ensure ABL Uganda does not lose money. · Monitor and prepare loan covenant compliance. · Provide detailed cash flow projections. Financial Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting · Responsible for the overall financial planning, budgeting, monitoring, and forecasting for ABUL. · Ensure all revenue is accounted for by making sure reconciliations and scheduled reports come out on time. · Manage Company cash allocation plan efficiently. · Ensure accounts payable are paid, and accounts receivable collected, in a timely and effective manner. · Continually strengthen the processes for payment of suppliers, contractors, and the distribution and management of petty cash. · Prepare and update the Stratcom Pack monthly for review by the Leadership Team and the Board and provide commentary to management and user departments as issues arise. · Oversee all ledger and bank account reconciliations. · Support other teams on strict and tight controls (procurement is a particularly important one here). Stakeholders / Relationship Management · Oversee operations of the Finance Department; build, mentor, and train the finance and administration team as well as help them in the Hiring process. · Develop and maintain relationships with key business partners (including banks, auditors, actuaries and regulatory bodies, insurance partners and corporate clients) · Maintain relationship and coordination between the Company Secretary and ABUL. · Ensure the Investors and Board are furnished with the right information through the CFO directly when called upon. · Build relationships between the finance department and all other departments in ABUL and support them in key areas that touch on finance. · Manage and maintaining company’s banking infrastructure, including bank and brokerage relationships. Reportin g and Regulatory · Ensure that there are laid down structures for producing the monthly management reports by the set timelines. · Ensure these reports are correct and represent the true picture of ABULs Financial performance. · Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants. · Prepare Quarterly Consolidated Financial reports for ABUL. · Ensure ABUL is Tax Compliant and always up to date with all other statutory requirements. · Coordinate the provision of information for the External Interim and Annual Audits and ensure that finance is a leader in taking feedback from auditors and improving on it. · Maintain appropriate Company documentation and compliance with regulatory and tax-related requirements. Leadership, Coaching and Development · Oversee the consolidation of financial statements, budget vs. actual reporting, and other reports as required, providing commentary, and ensuring accurate and timely presentation to management or the Board when called upon. · Manage the Administrative Assistant. Ensure they perform to expectations. This includes that the teams are adhering to policies and procedures at ABUL and being a good support system for other departments. · Track team KPI’s and progress against set goals. · Manage the team’s performance by determining targets, managing planned activities, reviewing key performance areas and control of direct subordinates, providing leadership, training, recruitment, selection and motivation. · Provide overall leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department. · Provide feedback in a constructive way to peers, subordinates, and CFO. In addition, the Financial Controller will be responsible for other assignments from time to time as required. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS · Accurate and timely monthly management reports- by 5 th of every month. · Unqualified audit reports completed and signed off by 31 st March of every year. · Complete Budget by 15 th December of every year. · Optimal working capital management. · Complete performance reviews for all subordinates. · Ensure controls are in place and in line with feedback from the internal and external audits. Qualifications And Educational Requirements · Masters’/ Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, finance and accounting or a relevant field · Relevant professional qualification: (ACCA/CPA/CA)- Required · Member of a relevant professional body – Required Knowledge, Competence And Experience Required · Strong leadership, task management, planning, and organizational skills. · At least 10 years’ relevant experience with at least 1 years at a leadership level. · Africa region experience. · Hands-on experience in financial planning, forecasting, and developing organizational budgets. · Track record in achieving financial reporting deadlines. · Capable to manage profitability and find creative solutions addressing financial problems. · Good analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills. · A self-starter, high energy level with strong interpersonal and communication skills. · Strong team player with a “roll up your sleeves and get the job done” attitude. · Extremely detail-oriented, efficient, and able to multitask, prioritize, manage, and follow projects through to completion. · Must have high standards of integrity, ethics, and confidentiality.
