General Manager 

Job Description : GM CANADA One of North America's best-known building materials brands, synonymous with premium quality products and best in class customer experience. A multi-billion-dollar business with operations across North America, they have a newly established distribution location in Delta, BC servicing the whole of British Columbia. Ambitious about their opportunity, they are looking to double business year on year for the next few years and take advantage of the ripe BC market. We are looking for an executive leader that can grow a business from its current size, approximately $20m top-line sales, year-on-year doubling the business to its target of $80m in the next couple of years. This aggressive growth is in line with other similar locations across North America. The role has complete control of profitability and owns the P&L while reporting directly to the board. The role will require a hands-on approach as you build your leadership team around you and create a business able to scale at the anticipated speed. Currently, there exists a team of circa 20 people spread across Operations, Administration, and Warehousing, with a dotted line to the sales team and marketing team. The business works closely with third-party installers and a strong understanding of this model is important. Achieving success in the role will require a strong understanding of customer service and the ability to create a first-class customer experience. The person will need to be a natural leader with a proven track record of success in creating and building teams. The role will suit someone who enjoys being in the field and spending time with installers, sales people, customers, and installation managers. It is vital that the level of customer experience is maintained across these different functions and the service levels exceed the customers' expectations. This individual's ability to engender a vision across all members of the business and create an engaged workforce aligned in their mission to build an outstanding business in British Columbia. As the business grows, geographic expansion will become important and this person's role will likely grow to a President position as they create successful distribution locations across the province each with their own General Managers. You will already be a proven leader within the building materials industry. B2C (business to consumer) is not essential, but experience working with sub-trades, ideally installers, will be important. You must understand the build process and have proven operational leadership experience from a distribution business. We are interested to speak with General Managers and Branch Managers who have led smaller facilities, or businesses, as long as they have managed the entire P&L and have been able to demonstrate growth for the business. You should have strong financial acumen, be able to demonstrate the value you bring your team and be able to show how you can manage through managers and leaders to affect successful outcomes for the business. This is a role that will springboard you to bigger opportunities. The role is envisioned to become the President of an $80m-100m business in BC. This is a high-profile role within a very large organization and career opportunities abound based on your success in this role. Tied to the growth is an aggressive compensation package that is designed to reward growth. This compensation package will attract the best candidates in the province and there is a clear opportunity to maximize earnings on the basis of achievable goals. There is a two-stage interview process with the company plus competency and personality assessments. They are looking to hire ASAP and have the person in place before the turn of the year.
