The role of Technical Services/Engineering Manager reports to the Plant Manager and is a member of the Plant Senior Management Team who supervises, plans, and manages all Engineering activities (technical) for the Power Plant. They provide direction to the Technical Services Department and coordinates with engineering staff to ensure the proper operations and maintenance of the power generating plant’s design base at all times. They work with Operations and Maintenance Departments on monitoring the performance of the Boilers, Steam Turbines, Generators and total Balance of Plant. They support technical knowledge transfer from the EPC contractor to local employees and oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of IT strategic plan. The Technical Services Department responsibility is to ensure the Power Plant meets its design intent in consistently achieving the design performance criteria for the life of the plant. This must be done safely and cost effectively. The Technical Services Manager must therefore establish and implement the right resources and business processes in order to achieve this. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: · Understand and adheres with all Local, Corporate Health Safety and Environmental Policies. · Establish strategies for the Technical Services Department to achieve the Plants Business and Departmental objectives. · Put processes in place to manage the technical documentation of the plant including Equipment Manuals, design drawings and Maintenance Strategies. · Effective Life of Plant Plan and Technical plan compilation and management done timeously. · Oversee the development and implementation of the plant’s Maintenance and Spares Strategies. · Oversee the development of the Operating Technical Specifications for the plant. · Oversees development, implementation, and compliance to Engineering Change Management (ECM) and design process management. · Ensures compliance to Occurrence Management process. · Oversee that root cause analysis of plant failures, incidents and occurrences are conducted. · Approval for intentional deviation from Operating Technical Specifications of a temporary or permanent nature. · Manage Long Term Plan Health (LTPH) indicators. · Provide Engineering support to all Departments including during Outages. · Manage the TSD/Engineering budget and finances. · Carries out technical/engineering communication with different equipment vendors as required. · Provides guidance to subordinates to carry out technical studies and provide engineering decision for any proposed change of operation or maintenance procedure/ system. · Self performs or coordinates consultants in performing special engineering studies for plant betterments or modifications. · Provides technical support for all plant maintenance and operating activities. Reviews maintenance and testing work including contract work as needed. To succeed in the role, you will be degree qualified in Engineering and have a career profile which demonstrates that you have well rounded experience in the Technical Services/Engineering of Coal Fired Power Plants (Sub and/or Super—Critical Boilers) and Turbine and Ancillary Plant & Equipment. You will clearly understand the interconnections between Engineering with Maintenance and Operations. Your experience will support your development and implementation of World Class Processes and Systems across the complete Power Plant. We also seek: · Expertise in reading and writing diagrams and instructions in the power plant. · Expertise in understanding blueprints. · Capable of working with the Plant’s Contractors. · Strong and solid power generation experience, in a coal fired power plants. · Strong technical background and Plant Performance experience. · Good Analytical and Problem-Solving skills. · Project Management and Good Communications Skills
