Job Description : GM UGANDA FOR TRANSPORT General manager role, responsible to oversee operations of a transport company (trucking) in Kampala. Covers Day to Day running of the business to improve efficiency and increase profits while managing, leading, coaching and encouraging employees for maximum performance and dedication. Involves working closely with the Directors and Senior Management team to implement company’s short and mid-term strategic objectives Responsibilities: · Responsible for day to day running of the business · Lead employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication · Actively coach the senior and middle management teams · Assess the principal risks to the Company and ensure that these risks are being monitored and managed · Lead the development and implementation of the company’s strategy (by studying industry best practices, technological and financial opportunities) · Lead the development and monitoring of annual budgets · Establish plans and KPIs. Allocate resources, review progress and make operational corrections as required · Work with directors and senior management to identify and prioritize Company’s strategic growth · Financial Performance and Reporting: · Responsible for the overall profitability of the company · Ensure weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting targets are met · Examine monthly financial performance and assist in Month – End closing · Assess company performance and devise plans for improvement · Assess company performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics and devise plans for improvement · Ensure that operational expenditures of the Company are within the authorized budget of the Company · Credit control and debtor management · Write and submit reports to the board in all matters of importance · Keep the Board fully informed on the condition of company operations & on all the important factors influencing it · Keep the Board fully informed on what is happening in the market (trends, issues, problems, activities) and on all the important factors influencing it · Business Development and Relationship Management: · Lead business development and all commercial efforts, including the targeting and capturing of new customers · Overall responsibility for client satisfaction and retention based on the delivery of high quality, punctual and budgeted goods and services · Manage relationships with customers / subcontractors / partners / suppliers / industry leaders · Represent Uganda entity on all relevant professional and industry bodies, industry related fairs, seminars and events · Lead the development of a strong brand that is clearly identifiable to the market as encompassing the values and purpose of the shareholders, board of directors and staff · Support the board of directors and shareholders with any additional corporate development programs that may arise on an adhoc basis · Responsible for day-to-day management and operations · Oversee daily operations of the company, and ensure a smoothly functioning, efficient operational team · Assure operational quality and stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation · Overall responsibility for client satisfaction and retention based on the delivery of high quality, punctual and budgeted clearing and forwarding services · Overseeing daily business operations and weekly / monthly reporting on operational performance · Measure effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes both internally and externally and finds ways to improve processes · Providing technical support and oversight of Transport and related operating policies and procedures · Development of operational strategies by studying industry best practices, technological and financial opportunities and producing advisory reports · Identify saving opportunities, leading to reduction in expenses and overheads · Manage relationships with stakeholders · Deliver Operational efficiency by ensuring effective maintenance standards are adhered to at all times. · Measure effectiveness and efficiency of Workshop turnaround times through TMS and find ways to improve processes · Oversee continuous improvement management to enhance operational efficiencies at every level of the Workshop in ensuring faster vehicle turnaround. · Assure maintenance quality and stability through regular evaluation of purchased parts and supplies. · Deliver operational excellence by ensuring compliance with local and international certifications such as ISO, ICMI, Driver DG training etc and managing a fully integrated QMS · Ensure that company is at the forefront of QHSE practices and maintains the certifications and standards required to retain market position in the Mining, O&G, DG and Project Cargo. · Actively promote, champion and input in to the QHSE focus of company throughout all business activities and operations whilst ensuring that full cognizance is taken of QHSE in all decisions · Uphold quality, health and safety standards · Lead the HR function to enable a high-performance culture
