Job Description : GM OPERATIONS AND PROJECT UGANDA Roles and Responsibilities 1. At initial stage, he has to contribute to the company as a project manager and guide the team regarding the selection of machines, and specifications, assisting the promoters in take the decisions to have the best assets and facilities. 2. He has to liaise with machinery suppliers regarding the machines, specifications, technology, designs, plant layouts, deliveries, installations, and commissioning of the plant. 3. Coordinating with the team including construction engineers, contractors, and government and environmental authorities to address the issues related to the project. 4. He has to be transparent enough to raise any issue of concern with the management during the project stage to have immediate or instant guidance from the management. 5. Ensuring the timely completion of the project 6. Assisting the promotors in selecting the best manpower from the industry to facilitate regular and project-related operations. After commissioning the plant he has to be on the top of the operations and attend following duties: 1. Day-to-day Factory operational management decisions. 2. Review daily updates in factory/ Production meetings and offer necessary direction to the team on the issues related to production/quality/maintenance/follow-up with the procurement department. 3. For proper planning and scheduling of preventive, predictive, and brack down maintenance of the plant and machinery. Ensuring to have all necessary and important spare parts in the stores, timely placement of the spares order to avoid major issues. 4. For world-class practice at factory operations and a high standard of housekeeping. 5. Keep the workforce motivated and appropriately organized. 6. Ensuring effective internal controls and management information systems are in place at Factory and reviewing them periodically. 7. Ensuring proper systems / standard operating procedures are in place at production and maintenance and relevant reports are shared with the management. 8. Improving Factory operational efficiency, cost reduction, bring in innovations. 9. Preparation and periodical review of annual R&M expense budgets and, adhering to them. 10. Responsible for ensuring compliances across all regulatory requirements, as laid down by the Government of Uganda, across various aspects of the Factory Act, environmental clearances, taxation, trademark regulations, labor laws, and other statutory standards. Expertise includes managing bank credit and related compliances. 11. Setting targets for Factory section heads and helping them in achieving. 12. Sending timely MIS reports to CEO/MD office. 13. Ensures a safe working environment throughout the organization. 14. Any other duties assigned from time to time Desired Candidate Profile · The position requires a candidate who is a hands-on and practical person and is willing to spend several hours at the factory to ensure uninterrupted production. The position is not for an armchair general. · The applicant must be a holder of a recognized Graduate/postgraduate-level degree in any Engineering/paper technology. · A minimum of 20 years of practical operational experience in running a similar factory out of which 5 years should be as a Factory Manager / General Manager. · Excellent communication and management skills, computer skills, presentable, attention to detail, hard-working with excellent organizational skills and follow-through. · Good track record with contactable references. · Previous work experience in East Arica will be added advantage.
