Job Description : PLANT HEAD EAST AFRICA An integrated Steel Plant at East Africa Job Profile: The Plant Head is a crucial and multifaceted role responsible for the overall management, operations, and performance of these steel manufacturing processes. The role demands a well-rounded skill set that combines technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a strong focus on operational excellence Job Responsibilities: 1. Operations Management: Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Bar Mill, Tube Mill, and Wire Mill to ensure smooth and efficient production processes. Coordinate with various departments including production, maintenance, quality control, and logistics to achieve production targets and maintain product quality. 1. Production Planning: Develop and implement production plans and schedules to optimize output while meeting customer demands and quality standards. Monitor production progress and adjust plans as needed to address any issues or bottlenecks. 1. Quality Control: Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure that the produced steel products meet industry standards and customer specifications. Implement quality assurance procedures and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality. 1. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental standards, and legal requirements within the plant. Implement and promote a culture of safety awareness and best practices among all employees. 1. Maintenance and Reliability: Collaborate with the maintenance department to ensure timely maintenance and repair of equipment, minimizing downtime and optimizing production efficiency. Implement preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of machinery and equipment. 1. Budget and Cost Management: Develop and manage budgets for the plant's operations, including expenditures for equipment, maintenance, labor, and other resources. Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining operational excellence. 1. Team Leadership: Lead and manage a diverse team of employees, including supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators. Foster a positive work environment, encourage employee growth, and address any performance or personnel issues. 1. Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement and operational efficiency enhancements. Implement lean manufacturing principles and other methodologies to optimize production processes and reduce waste. Desired Profile: Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Engineering. An advanced degree or relevant certifications can be beneficial. Experience: Significant experience in steel manufacturing operations, including hands-on experience in bar mills, tube mills, and wire mills. Previous experience in a managerial or leadership role is essential. Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of steel manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies. Familiarity with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations is crucial. Leadership and Communication Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to effectively manage teams, collaborate with various departments, and communicate with stakeholders. Problem-Solving: The ability to analyze complex situations, identify root causes of issues, and implement effective solutions is critical in maintaining efficient operations. Strategic Thinking: Plant Heads need to develop and execute long-term strategies to achieve production targets, improve operational efficiency, and stay competitive in the industry. Business Acumen: Understanding of budget management, cost control, and financial performance to ensure the plant's profitability and sustainability. Change Management: The steel industry is evolving, and the ability to adapt to technological advancements and industry trends is crucial for sustained success.
