Job Description : PORT OPERATIONS MANAGER GUINEA CONAKRY 15+ years experience African experience mandatory · Bauxite Product is bauxite ore which has been extracted, measured and quantified in chemical and physical properties and is thus ready for shipping to customers. · Port Operations is the Department tasked with ensuring the executions of the plans associated with the receival, storage, quality control and then loading on to barges and ocean-going vessels (OGV) of the Bauxite Product at Dynamic Mining Port Installations on River Nunez, in Kamsar. · Port Operations is an integral part of the Dynamic Mining Production System and is directly linked in the Bauxite Product handling with the Mine Planning, Mine Operations, Product Quality and Road Haulage Departments. · The Manager Port Operations manages all the Staff, Contractors, Processes and Systems that contribute directly to the effective handling of the Bauxite Product through the Dynamic Mining Port Installations including but not limited to: · Receiving the haulage trucks into the Port facilities, · Storage and stockpile of the Bauxite Product (segregated by quality and by planned OGV), · Ensuring effective drainage and moisture control on the stockpiles and when appropriate, dust control · Effective storage to maximize active footprint and minimize dead stock · Ensuring reclaiming plans are in line with quality targets for every OGV as assigned to various clients · Ensures effective use, maintenance and operations of the Port installation facilities as they relate to storage, reclaiming and barge loading infrastructure, so as to ensure optimal uptime and capacity of these key elements of the Dynamic Mining Port Infrastructure · Ensures that the interface with the Marine Operations is continuously monitored and managed for effective use of the Marine resources and management of Dynamic Mining cost as it pertains to dispatch and demurrage. · Manages and monitors the performance of the Marine contractor · Ensures that regular reconciliation of quantities and quality of the Bauxite Product handled by the Dynamic Mining Port is performed so as to ensure correct quantities are recorded in the commercial transactions with Dynamic Mining Clients. · Regularly informs the management on deviations from the Marketing / Sales plan or on opportunities to improve on the same for effective decision making · Ensures that all work and activities related to Port Operations by either direct employees or contractors follow relevant Dynamic Mining procedures and where applicable, relevant standards i.e. ISO standards. · Ensures that all instruments and measuring tools deployed in the process of quantity measurement (weightometers) are calibrated to the relevant standards. · Together with the Product Quality Superintendent supervises the measurement and calculations related to the final product quality results on completion of ship loading so as to ensure correct commercial invoice · Trains, mentors, gives feedback and coaches the team members to achieve their best performance. · Supports the professional skills development for high performing employees · Gives support to and coordinates with the Product Quality and Mine Operations Teams in the implementation of grade control plans and blend ratios to achieve planned grades. · Perform any other function as required by management within the area of responsibility and scope of knowledge/expertise · Carry out tasks/projects in accordance with SOPs and within time limit · Ensure compliance with health and safety and all related legal/statutory regulations, policies and procedures, codes, professional duties, responsibilities and obligations · Immediately report problems/failures that may impact on the team or the organization to your supervisor or Line manager · Responsibly use resources and control expenses to meet budgetary controls · Set an example for team members of commitment, knowledge, work ethics and habits and personal character · You are responsible for your allocated workload and must meet all targets as agreed with your supervisor and contribute Management / Supervisory Responsibilities People or equipment · Manage and supervise the Port Operations Team to ensure desired output is achieved · Train and transfer skills to local employees · You are responsible for the equipment provided to you for use in your job role. You must also ensure that equipment is used in accordance with training provided, all of the organizations policies and procedures and the law and using, where applicable, any safety equipment or Personal Protective Equipment provided.
