Operations Manager

Job Description : OPERATIONS MANAGER ZAMBIA The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of transport operations, including driver recruitment, fleet management, logistics, compliance, financial oversight, and team leadership. This role demands a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective transport operations. Responsibilities: Hire international drivers, including interviewing, testing, conducting reference checks, and appointments. Monitor driver performance and conduct periodic appraisals. Attend disciplinary hearings, ensuring procedures are carried out in accordance with company policy and labor laws. Oversee fleet management, including liaising with workshops for maintenance and breakdowns, and monitoring truck performance and fuel consumption. Travel to breakdown sites as required. Plan, supervise, and track shipments, schedule routes, and allocate loads to trucks and drivers. Ensure all documents are in place for dispatches and liaise with clearing agents and clients to minimize waiting times at borders and client premises. Negotiate transport rates with clients and follow up on payments. Ensure compliance with transport-related regulations and maintain all necessary licenses, insurance, and ownership documents. Keep and transmit complete and accurate records for the fleet and cargo transported. Coordinate with insurance companies on accident claims and follow-up on claim payments. Monitor and report on transportation costs and market rates to ensure competitiveness. Supervise the operations team, providing guidance and training as needed. Perform periodic reporting to management and undertake any other duties as assigned. Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team, providing direction and support to ensure that operational goals are met. Capacity to quickly identify problems, analyze potential solutions, and make decisions that mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective liaison with internal teams, drivers, clients, and external partners. This includes the ability to negotiate, persuade, and clearly convey operational plans and expectations. Understanding of budgeting, financial planning, and cost management specific to transportation operations, including the ability to negotiate contracts and manage financial transactions with clients. Ability to handle emergencies, unexpected situations, and manage stress effectively without compromising operations or safety. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), GPS tracking, and other technology tools that enhance operational efficiency and data management. Focus on customer satisfaction, including the ability to resolve client issues, maintain strong relationships, and ensure the timely delivery of services. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is typically required. ( Advantage) 12+ years in transport frield with 3-5 years of direct transportation or logistics management experience, demonstrating a track record of successful team leadership and operational improvements.
