Operations Head

Job Description : OPERATIONS HEAD EAST AFRICA FOR AGRO Seeking dynamic Head of Operations to manage daily packhouse activities, lead 100 staff, ensure efficient processing and shipping, and drive continuous improvements in quality, safety, and productivity. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Management: o Lead and manage a team of 100 staff, including supervisors, quality control, production, and warehouse teams o Develop and implement effective operational strategies to achieve business objectives. o Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork accountability, and open communication. Operations Management: o Oversee the daily operations of the packhouse, including receiving, grading, packing, and shipping of fresh produce. o Implement and maintain efficient systems and processes to ensure high-quality products, minimize waste, and optimize productivity o Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. Systems and Process Implementation: o Develop, implement, and maintain operational systems, procedures, and policies to ensure consistency and efficiency. o Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to increase productivity, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction. o Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of operations. o Ensure the implementation of quality control measures to meet customer and regulatory requirements. o Develop and maintain a culture of quality and safety, promoting a zero-defect mindset. o Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement. Supply Chain and Logistics: o Manage relationships with suppliers, transporters, and logistics providers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of fresh produce. o Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure an adequate supply of packaging materials and other operational inputs. Reporting and Analysis: o Prepare and present operational reports to senior management, including production, quality, and performance metrics. o Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges, and develop strategies to address them. o Bachelor’s degree in operations management, Agriculture, Business Administration, or a related field. o At least 15 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the fresh produce industry. o Proven track record of leading and managing large teams in a fast-paced operational environment. o Strong knowledge of food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements o Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills o Ability to work in a rural setting with limited infrastructure and resources.
