Head of Logistics and Warehousing

Job Description : HEAD OF LOGISTICS AND WAREHOUSING NIGERIA This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of logistics, including transportation, exports, imports, inventory management, and warehouse operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and a proven record of accomplishment in optimizing supply chain processes to ensure efficiency, business success, and customer satisfaction. Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with company goals to optimize efficiency and minimize costs. Oversee the effective operations of the warehouses, including receiving, storing, and shipping goods. Ensure inventory accuracy and proper utilization/planning of warehouse spaces for all Nigeria CD and N&I operations. Implement inventory control procedures to minimize turn-around time. Make data-driven decisions to optimize warehouse capacity. Manage transportation activities, including carrier selection, route optimization, and freight negotiation. Ensure timely delivery of goods while minimizing transportation costs. Build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders like shipping lines, terminal operators, NPA, Customs, FPIS, logistics partners, suppliers, and carriers. Negotiate contracts and service agreements to ensure cost-effective and reliable transportation services. Ensure accurate shipping documentation tracking and coordination, timely receipt, and communication to the traffic department. Lead and motivate a team of logistics professionals, warehouse staff, drivers, and logistics coordinators. Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and employee development. Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings within the logistics and warehouse operations. Implement best practices, group internal controls, and innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and company policies. Implement measures to mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of logistics and warehouse operations. Analyze performance data and generate reports to track progress and identify areas for improvement for management reporting. Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement, sales, and shared services, to ensure seamless coordination of activities and alignment of objectives. QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. Partial/full member of a related Professional Body Proven experience in logistics management, with at least 10 years in a leadership role. Experience in a similar role leading exports and imports in Nigeria logistics will be advantageous. SPECIALIZED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE: Strong knowledge of supply chain principles, transportation regulations, and warehouse operations. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. Strong negotiation and vendor management skills. Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement. Knowledge of handling agric/perishable/degradable commodities in terms of moisture control, pest infestations, etc. MS Office skills include Excel, Word, and PPT for reporting and presentation. Detailed Knowledge of Nigeria's import and export processes in terms of each step of documentation involved, counterparties involved, and opportunities available for fast-tracking the overall cycle time.
