Financial Controller

Job Description : FC KENYA Looking for a progressive Group Financial Controller, ideally someone with experience in the Financial Services and Insurance industry, with sound experience of managing Finance & Accounting and more specifically with experience of optimizing the Finance & Accounting processes through automation and transformation. Reporting to the Group CFO, you will be part of the senior management team fully responsible to ensure that all activities of the organization are carried out within defined budgets and that the profitability of the company meets the set benchmarks consistently. Additionally, ensure that improvements and effective changes are implemented in financial management practices to reach better results and effective operations. Responsibilities · Transform the Finance function into a much more efficient and automated function reducing manual processes and streamlining the working of the function. · Ensure that financial controls are in place and operating effectively across all Lifecare entitles/branches. · Review and appraise the soundness, adequacy and application of accounting, financial and operational policies. · Regularly review performance against predetermined budgets and control standards. · Analyze business performance/results, providing feedback to Group CFO/Senior Management. · Regularly review the fiscal and investment management policies and procedures. · Report on the value for money that the company obtains in all its activities with special regards to economy, efficiency and effectiveness. · Ensure that the finance teams are complying with all taxation and legislative requirements. · Ascertain the extent to which Lifecare group’s assets are accounted for and safeguard from losses. · Review and ensure the monthly reconciliations of all ledgers and sub ledgers are being carried out effectively and that reconciling items are identified and cleared in a timely manner. · Review and report on the accuracy, timeliness and relevance of the financial and other information that is provided to Group CFO/senior management · Prepare, analyze and present financial results on periodic/regular basis to the group CFO. · Develop and execute analysis of various business initiatives in coordination with the CFO and other departmental heads. · Develop and maintain capital budget in coordination with CFO. · Develop financial business plans and forecasts and present them to group CFO/CEO. · Represent the company to financial partners, auditors, public officials, and other arenas wherever required. · Responsible for developing and applying appropriate financial polices as per the needs and requirements of the organization on regular basis. · Prepare financial statements and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected financial position for the company. · Enhance and implement appropriate internal systems, processes, controls and financial procedures. · Manage and oversee the accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function, supervise company’s finance and accounts staff irrespective of their location (including remote employees) as per the defined frameworks and benchmarks. · Ensure timelines, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting are met consistently · Prepare weekly/quarterly/annual regulatory reports and ensure these are filed in a timely manner. · Prepare quarterly tax filing for all the entities Desired Experience · Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent required, Master’s degree preferred (CFA/MBA) · 8+ years of progressively responsible financial experience ideally in the Insurance/Banking sectors in Kenya. · Skilled in examining, developing, re-engineering, and recommending financial and operational policies and procedures using technology and automation · Excellent analytical and problem solving skills · Hands-on and proactive management style · Strong ability to develop and implement creative financial management strategies. · Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written in order to interact knowledgeably with and impact both internal and external parties · Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to convey highly technical information understandably to a wide variety of audiences. · Ability to partner effectively with the business and interface with clients, vendors and senior management. · Keen ability to think and act strategically; planning for the long-term while balancing the short and long-range needs of the organization. · Demonstrates high standards regarding the quality and thoroughness of business and technical analysis
