15 yearsJob Description : EHS HEAD EGYPT The EHS Head is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all environment, health, and safety (EHS) policies to ensure compliance with IFC, EBRD and regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The role preparation of ESMPs, EMPs, involves risk assessment, incident prevention, safety training, and ensuring a culture of safety-first across all operations. He will also be responsible for ensuring safety during project stage and zero tolerance in safety, environment violations. 1. EHS Planning & Strategy Development Develop and implement an EHS Management Plan (EHSMP) tailored to the project. Ensure integration of safety by design principles into engineering and construction. Define EHS objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and compliance frameworks for the project. Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams to ensure safety considerations in design and execution. 2. Regulatory Compliance & Permitting Ensure the project complies with local, national, and international EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, environmental clearances). Obtain necessary permits and approvals from environmental and safety regulatory bodies. Maintain and submit compliance reports to relevant authorities. Refine ESIA report in compliance with lenders requirement 3. Contractor & Workforce Safety Management Develop contractor safety guidelines and ensure compliance with project-specific EHS requirements. Conduct EHS audits of contractors and subcontractors to verify adherence to safety policies. Implement a Permit to Work (PTW) system for high-risk activities (e.g., confined space entry, electrical work, working at heights). Ensure proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols. Ensure Contractors compliance to IFC & EBRD 4. Co Ordination with Lenders: Responsible to liaison with ESIA contractor for concluding with details from Lenders. Liaison with Lenders to create various documents required as per international standard. Responsible to communicate with Lenders during project stage and ensuring all agreed KPIs are implemented during constructions. Create a document along with Lenders to ensure all KPIs are followed and implemented and record keeping 5. Site Safety & Risk Management Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) for construction, installation, and commissioning activities. Ensure proper implementation of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and toolbox talks before critical activities. Oversee fire safety, explosion risks, hazardous material handling, and emergency response preparedness. Implement LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) procedures for electrical and mechanical work. 6. Environmental Impact Management Ensure waste disposal, air emissions, and wastewater management are compliant with environmental laws. Develop and oversee implementation of pollution control measures (dust control, chemical spill management, noise control). Monitor and reduce the project's carbon footprint, energy consumption, and resource use. 7. Incident Management & Emergency Preparedness Develop and implement an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for project-related risks (fires, toxic leaks, equipment failures). Conduct mock drills and emergency response training for employees and contractors. Investigate near misses, incidents, and accidents, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are taken. 8. EHS Audits, Reporting & Documentation Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections to ensure compliance. Maintain records of safety incidents, environmental reports, and risk assessments. Submit periodic EHS performance reports to senior management and regulatory bodies. Implement continuous improvement initiatives based on audit findings and incident learnings. 9. Safety Culture & Training Conduct EHS induction programs for new workers and contractors. Organize training sessions on hazard awareness, PPE use, and emergency response. Promote a safety-first culture through leadership engagement and incentive programs. 10. Commissioning & Handover Phase Ensure all safety and environmental standards are met before plant commissioning. Participate in pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR) to verify system integrity and compliance. Ensure as-built documentation includes EHS considerations for future operations. Skills / Knowledge / Competencies Strong knowledge of safety laws, environmental regulations, and industrial best practices. Hands-on experience in HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment), JSA (Job Safety Analysis), and Root Cause Analysis. Handling of international lenders. Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills Certifications: NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent safety certification preferred Preferred candidate profile Bachelors/Masters degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a related field 15+ years in EHS management, preferably in a fertilizer, chemical, or heavy industrial environment.
