Job Description : Project Engineer-Mechanical (Potroom) JOB LOCATION Nigeria REPORTING TO Section Lead-Potroom BUSINESS UNIT Aluminium Smelter SUB_BUSINESS_UNIT Aluminium DEPARTMENT Aluminium Smelter SUB_DEPARTMENT Technical KEY RESPONSBILITIES • Minimum 10-15 years of total experience in Potroom Mechanical Deptt having Brown Field/ Green Field Projects experience • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables related to potroom mechanical systems like PTMs ,Buss bar erections, Pot shell and Superstruture fabrication, Cathode Sealing Shop and Gas Treatment System • Develop timelines and resource requirements for pre-EPC activities. • Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations for proposed mechanical systems. • Support the development of concept designs and layouts in line with project objectives. • Draft detailed technical specifications for potroom mechanical systems, including equipment and material requirements. • Ensure specifications comply with industry standards and project requirements. • Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) documents for EPC contractors. • Review and evaluate technical submissions from bidders to ensure compliance with project requirements. • Evaluate and prequalify potential EPC contractors and suppliers based on technical and financial criteria. • Conduct technical discussions and clarifications during the bidding process. • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, procurement, finance) to align technical requirements and project goals. • Engage with consultants and external experts for validation of designs and specifications. • Prepare preliminary cost estimates for potroom mechanical systems, including equipment, materials, and services. • Evaluate EPC contractor bids for technical and financial accuracy and ensure alignment with budget expectations. • Analyze costs associated with different design and material options to optimize expenditure. • Assess the total EPC cost proposed by bidders, ensuring transparency and value for money. • Engage in cost negotiations with EPC contractors to achieve the best technical and commercial outcomes. • Identify potential risks in the pre-EPC phase and recommend mitigation strategies. • Ensure alignment with regulatory and safety requirements during the planning and design stages. • Support negotiations and finalization of EPC contract terms, including technical and commercial aspects. • Ensure contract aligns with project objectives, scope, costs, and timelines. FUNCTIONAL SKILLS • Ability to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables for potroom mechanical systems. • Expertise in planning schedules and resources for pre-EPC phases. • Strong understanding of the design and functionality of potroom mechanical systems, including gas treatment plants, cooling systems, and material handling equipment. • Knowledge of mechanical requirements specific to aluminum smelting processes. • Proficient in drafting comprehensive technical specifications for mechanical equipment and systems. • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ASME, API). • Skilled in preparing and issuing tender documents, including Request for Proposal (RFP) and technical evaluation criteria. • Ability to analyze technical and commercial bids to identify the most suitable EPC contractor. • Competence in preparing detailed cost estimates for equipment, materials, and services related to potroom mechanical systems. • Analytical skills to evaluate contractor bids and ensure alignment with project budgets. • Experience in prequalifying vendors and contractors based on technical, financial, and performance criteria. • Ability to conduct technical discussions and resolve queries during the bidding process. • Proficient in identifying technical and commercial risks associated with the project and proposing mitigation measures. • Awareness of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) considerations during the planning phase. • Strong communication and coordination skills to collaborate with internal teams, consultants, and external stakeholders. • Capability to present evaluations and recommendations to management for decision-making. • Expertise in maintaining detailed records of technical specifications, bid evaluations, and cost analyses. • Ability to generate clear and concise reports for project tracking and audits. • Skilled in negotiating technical and commercial terms with EPC contractors. • Capability to finalize EPC contracts that meet project requirements for scope, cost, and timelines. QUALIFICATION Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Design Engineering EXPERIENCE 10-15 years experience in Potroom Mechanical Deptt having Brown Field/ Green Field Projects experience CERTIFICATIONS SELECTION CRITERIA Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Design Engineering Proven experience(typically 10 to 15 yrs) in Potroom Mechanical Deptt having Brown Field/ Green Field Projects experience A strong understanding of engineering principles Experience in outlook, word, Excel , Power point, AutoCAD
