Job Description : OPERATIONS MANAGER SOUTH AFRICA FOR STEEL INDUSTRY A leading South African Company is looking for Operations Manager - Position Permanent on a long-term basis. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : - Manage the overall steel operations at the plant by offering technical and commercial leadership - Be responsible for the Balance Sheet including preparation of operational & development budgets. - Prepare five-year long-term strategic plan . - Fully familiar with all types of steel products like pig iron, billets, tool steel and other high end specialized steel with different alloy . - Conduct periodical production review meetings and prepare MIS reports for executive management. - Oversee the activities relating to setting-up a new modern factory including coordination with design consultants, contractors, vendors and machinery suppliers. - Familiar with advanced ERP system. - Capable of identifying costs such as indirect, direct, fixed, variable, capital etc in order to arrive at actual unit cost of production for all processes involved in the steel operations in consultation with Accounts Department so that preparation of estimates for both internal and external clients can be facilitated. - Incumbent should also be familiar with international standards governing different aspects of steel and also production machinery, equipment and machine tools handling. - Familiar with computerized and user-friendly tracking system and material management at the factory shop floor including material traceability systems and inventory management. - Standardize an appropriate organization structure for all the factories to enhance efficiency and develop roles and responsibilities for all employees. - Able to guide the team in process improvement techniques and continuous improvement programs. - Achieve monthly production targets and establish productivity norms for various processes to monitor productivity. - Monitor and control costs as per the approved budget to achieve profitability targets. - Propose improvement schemes for enhancing current production processes, control wastes, minimize reworks & defects and maintain high quality standards as demanded by the clients. - Familiar with all aspects of steel mill management including manpower & material planning, process optimization and adoption of industry best practices etc. - Implement Safety Policies of the company and provide safety training for all employees at the factories to ensure all organization policies, rules and regulations are strictly followed and ensure all employees are working in a safe environment. - Implement factory maintenance program covering preventive, shut down & predictive maintenance of all factory equipment and machineries to achieve maximum utilization of production capacities. - Review the present documents relating to production processes, procedures and policies and amend them as necessary to enhance the overall efficiency and profitability of the business. - Acquire, motivate and develop the team including recruitment of additional personnel and organizing mentoring and job-specific training in consultation with HR department. Requirements : SKILLS : - Knowledge and experience in leading multi-ethnic and multi -cultural plant . - Possess technical proficiency as well as a business acumen & commercial judgment. - Strategic mindset & long term vision capabilities. - Capable of problem solving, decision making and failure analysis. - A self-motivated leader & a team player. - Modern production technology savory and open-mind for adopting new technology and concepts, and fully abreast with new developments in the industry. - Exceptional inter-personal & communication skills (both verbal & written), including negotiating, persuasive and presentation skills. - Practical application of HR, Finance, Operations and Strategic Management in the day to day business. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE : Academic Qualification : - BSC or BE or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy. - Engineering or Industrial Engineering plus an MBA or Post-Graduate degree (preferable) Professional Qualification : - Additional education may include specialized trainings, professional certifications, workshops and seminars relevant to industry. Work Experience : - 15-20 years experience supported by direct exposure to relevant operations in the steel production along-with a proven managerial ability in business. Age 45 - 50 years
