Job Description : FINANCE DIRECTOR MALAYSIA This role is perfect for someone who thrives on shaping financial strategy, driving business objectives, and nurturing a collaborative finance team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in supporting the Board of Directors with insightful financial analysis, ensuring robust risk management, and leading all aspects of financial planning and reporting. With a focus on fostering professional growth within the team and maintaining high standards of compliance, this position offers the chance to make a significant impact while enjoying a supportive environment that values knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. What you'll do: As Finance Director, you will be entrusted with overseeing all facets of the organisation’s financial operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure seamless preparation of board-level documentation; delivering insightful reports that inform strategic direction; designing forward-thinking budgets; managing risk; optimising cash flow; evaluating investments; ensuring tax compliance; enhancing internal systems; and nurturing talent within your team. Success in this role will come from your ability to balance technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills—enabling you to build trust across departments while upholding best practices in every aspect of finance management. Collaborate closely with the Company Secretary to prepare Directors’ Circular Resolutions and other essential documents required at Board level, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Report regularly to the Board of Directors on the company’s financial performance, offering clear analysis and actionable recommendations to support informed decision-making. Develop and implement comprehensive financial plans, budgets, standard costing systems, and forecasts that align with strategic business objectives. Prepare accurate, timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for management review as well as for investors and regulatory authorities. Identify, assess, and manage financial risks by implementing effective mitigation strategies that safeguard organisational assets. Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital requirements to optimise overall financial performance and ensure operational needs are consistently met. Evaluate investment opportunities through detailed financial analysis, providing recommendations that maximise returns while managing investment portfolios responsibly. Oversee tax planning activities by developing strategies that minimise liabilities while ensuring full compliance with relevant tax regulations. Implement and maintain robust financial systems and processes designed to enhance efficiency, accuracy, transparency, and regulatory compliance across all finance functions. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team by providing guidance, support, and opportunities for professional growth. What you bring: To excel as Finance Director, you will bring extensive experience gained from senior finance positions within reputable organisations. Your background should reflect not only technical proficiency but also a genuine commitment to nurturing others—demonstrating how you have supported colleagues’ growth through mentoring or coaching. You will be adept at navigating complex regulatory environments thanks to your familiarity with IFRS/IAS/Company Law frameworks. Your approach combines analytical rigour with empathy: you understand how numbers drive business outcomes but also appreciate the importance of building consensus among stakeholders. Your communication style is clear yet considerate—ensuring everyone feels included in discussions about strategy or change. Above all else, your dependability makes you a trusted advisor whose judgement supports both immediate priorities and long-term ambitions. A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field is required; an MBA or CPA qualification is highly desirable for this senior position. At least 15 years of progressive experience in finance roles is essential, including a minimum of 5 years spent in a leadership capacity where you have demonstrated your ability to guide teams effectively. Comprehensive knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Accounting Standards (IAS), and Company Law is necessary for success in this role. Exceptional analytical skills paired with strong strategic thinking abilities are vital for interpreting complex data sets and informing business decisions. A deep understanding of core financial principles, industry regulations, and best practices ensures you can maintain high standards across all areas of responsibility. Excellent communication skills are required for presenting complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organisation. Proven leadership capabilities are needed to inspire confidence within your team while fostering an environment built on collaboration and mutual respect. Outstanding interpersonal skills enable you to build positive relationships across departments while supporting shared organisational goals. Experience in developing tax strategies and overseeing tax compliance processes is important for minimising liabilities without compromising integrity or transparency.
