Job Description : COUNTRY MANAGER EAST AFRICA Leading Food FMCG company headquartered at East Africa To lead, manage, and grow the FMCG business in Tanzania OR Uganda by overseeing sales, operations, and distribution. The role is responsible for establishing a strong retail and wholesale presence for food FMCG products through effective appointment and management of sales teams, retailers, dealers, and distributors, while ensuring profitability and compliance. Dar Es Salaam for TANZANIA Kampala for UGANDA Sales & Market Expansion Develop and execute country-specific sales strategies to achieve revenue and volume targets. Drive market penetration by expanding retail, wholesale, and modern trade networks. Lead new product introductions and ensure category growth across channels. Distribution & Operations Establish and manage an effective distribution network across Tanzania / Uganda. Appoint and oversee distributors, dealers, and retailers to ensure strong market coverage. Monitor supply chain, logistics, and inventory management to ensure product availability. Implement trade promotions, merchandising, and visibility programs at point of sale. Team Leadership Recruit, train, and manage a local sales and operations team. Provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to ensure performance-driven culture. Develop local talent and strengthen organizational capabilities. Financial & Compliance Manage country-level P&L, ensuring profitable growth. Prepare annual sales budgets, forecasts, and regular performance reports. Ensure compliance with Tanzanian laws, taxation, import/export norms, and company policies. Market Intelligence & Relationships Build and maintain strong relationships with key distributors, retailers, and trade partners. Monitor competitor activities, consumer trends, and market opportunities to drive business growth. Provide strategic insights to regional/global management for decision-making. Strong track record in FMCG sales, distribution, and operations management. Deep understanding of African FMCG market dynamics, preferably in East Africa Strong distributor and retail network management skills. Excellent leadership, team-building, and people management capabilities. Proven ability to handle P&L, budgeting, and financial performance. Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to adapt to multicultural environments with high resilience and problem-solving mindset. Graduate / MBA in Sales, Marketing, or Business Management. 10–15 years of FMCG sales & distribution experience, with at least 3–5 years in Managerial role. Prior experience in African FMCG markets is mandatory. Strong knowledge of retail distribution in food categories (snacks, staples, packaged foods, beverages, etc.).
