20 yearsJob Description : GM EAST AFRICA STEEL Leading Steel manufacturing company at East Africa Job Profile: Role : The role will spearhead Company’s strategy, drive operational excellence, and expand market leadership both domestically and regionally. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with deep expertise in the heavy manufacturing sector and a track record of delivering substantial, profitable growth. Key Roles and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop and implement long-term business strategies to ensure sustainable market growth, profitability and operational scale. Advise on business performance, investments, and new opportunities in Africa and on a Global scale. Operations & Production Oversee all aspects of manufacturing, supply chain and production processes driving efficiency, quality improvement and adoption of best-in-class industrial practices. • Ensure continuous improvement in yield, energy efficiency, and safety standards. • Coordinate procurement of high-quality raw materials. Financial & Commercial Management Drive superior financial results, manage budgets and forecasts, oversee capital expenditure, oversee local and international sales & pricing and ensure the company's financial health and stability. Market Expansion Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities, securing new markets, and enhancing the company’s competitive position in the East African region. Human Resource Leadership Build and mentor a high-performing, multicultural management team fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, safety, and ethical practice across the organization. Ensure training, skill development, and succession planning for all positions. Governance & Compliance Ensure full compliance with environmental, safety, labor and statutory regulations. • Maintain ethical business practices and good corporate governance. Serve as the primary liaison between the Board, Executive team, Employees, Customers, Suppliers, and Regulatory bodies. Desired Profile: Education A Master of Business Administration (MBA) from a reputable institution is highly preferred. A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field such as Metallurgical, Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical), Business Administration, or Finance is required. Professional Experience Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the heavy manufacturing or basic materials sector, with significant exposure to the steel industry being a distinct advantage. At least 6-10 years of experience in a Senior/Top Management role (eg: COO or General Manager). Demonstrated experience in successfully leading a large-scale manufacturing operation to achieve aggressive growth targets. Prior experience in Africa or International project management is a strong advantage. Languages: English (mandatory). Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of corporate finance, budgeting, and investment strategies. Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with industrial, labor, and commercial regulations in Uganda.
