Job Description : GM - Commercial Location: Africa Experience: 20+ Years Qualification: Any Graduate / MBA Job Purpose: The incumbent will be responsible to lead and manage the end-to-end commercial operations of an integrated steel plant including procurement, contract management, vendor development, logistics coordination, cost control, and statutory compliance to ensure uninterrupted plant operations and optimized commercial efficiency. Role & responsibilities: 1. Procurement & Strategic Sourcing: · Lead procurement of raw materials, consumables, spares, capital equipment, and services required for plant operations. · Develop sourcing strategies to ensure cost-effective and timely procurement. · Identify and develop reliable vendors for critical materials such as coal, iron ore, ferro alloys, refractories, and maintenance spares. · Ensure adherence to procurement policies and internal control systems. 2. Contract & Tender Management: · Prepare and review tender documents, RFQs, techno-commercial evaluations, and purchase orders. · Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers. · Draft and manage contracts including AMC, service contracts, and long-term supply agreements. · Monitor contract performance and ensure compliance with agreed terms. 3. Cost Control & Budget Monitoring: · Monitor procurement costs and identify opportunities for cost optimization. · Support CAPEX and OPEX budgeting and ensure commercial compliance with approved budgets. · Conduct cost analysis and benchmark procurement prices. 4. Vendor Management & Development: · Build and maintain a strong vendor base for operational reliability. · Evaluate vendor performance on quality, cost, and delivery. · Drive vendor development initiatives for critical plant requirements. 5. Coordination with Plant Functions: · Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Projects, Finance, and Logistics teams to ensure timely material availability. · Support project procurement for plant expansions, modernization, and capex initiatives. · Facilitate smooth coordination between internal stakeholders and suppliers. 6. Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination: · Oversee inward logistics and material movement to ensure timely delivery. · Coordinate with logistics teams for transportation, warehousing, and dispatch planning. · Ensure optimization of freight and transportation costs. 7. Compliance & Documentation: · Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, company policies, and audit standards. · Maintain accurate commercial documentation, purchase records, and vendor contracts. · Support internal and external audits related to procurement and commercial activities. 8. Team Leadership: · Lead and mentor the commercial team including procurement, stores, and contract management personnel. · Establish performance metrics and drive a culture of accountability and efficiency.
