20 yearsJob Description : GENERAL MANAGER – RETAIL OPERATIONS TANZANIA INDUSTRY: OIL AND GAS we are seeking to recruit a General Manager – Retail Operations who will be responsible for leading the overall performance, profitability, and operational excellence of a multi-site retail fuel network. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop and execute the annual operating plan and budget for the retail network in alignment with the company’s growth strategy. • Take full profit-and-loss responsibility, driving improvements in gross margins, operating efficiency, and return on investment. • Identify and pursue opportunities for network optimisation, non-fuel revenue growth, and selective expansion. • Oversee the day-to-day operations of all retail outlets to ensure uninterrupted service, optimal fuel throughput, and superior customer experience. • Implement and enforce wet-stock management, daily reconciliations, loss-prevention controls, and inventory accuracy procedures to minimise shrinkage and operational variances. • Drive continuous improvement in station maintenance, forecourt efficiency, and digital retail systems including POS, ERP, CCTV, and tank gauging systems. • Oversee accurate financial reporting, cash management, credit control, and working capital optimisation across the retail division. • Prepare monthly management accounts, variance analysis, forecasts, and performance reports for executive management. • Champion cost control and productivity improvement initiatives across labour, utilities, procurement, and station operating expenses. • Develop and implement aggressive sales and marketing strategies to increase fuel volumes, grow market share, and improve ancillary revenue. • Lead customer loyalty programmes, promotional campaigns, digital marketing activities, and strategic partnerships to enhance brand visibility and customer retention. • Monitor market trends, competitor pricing, and customer behaviour to inform business decisions and drive measurable revenue growth. • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of station managers, supervisors, and support staff. • Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, safety, and customer-centric service through performance management, coaching, and succession planning. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a related field. • MBA or postgraduate qualification in Energy Management, Business Leadership, or a related discipline will be an added advantage. • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in the oil and gas sector. • At least 5 years of experience in a senior multi-site retail management role, preferably managing 8+ petroleum stations. • Direct experience with retail fuel systems, wet-stock management, and loss-control methodologies. • Deep understanding of Tanzanian petroleum regulations and HSSE best practices.
