20 yearsJob Description : GM YTRANSPORT UGANDA 15-20 years experience We are seeking an experienced and result-oriented professional for the position of General Manager Transport, responsible for overseeing end-to-end freight operations, fleet management, and logistics strategy. Key Responsibilities Fleet & Transport Operations Manage daily fleet dispatch, routing, maintenance, and transport operations. Monitor telematics, vehicle utilization, fuel efficiency, and downtime reduction initiatives. Ensure smooth execution of transportation activities across all operational locations. Supply Chain Integration Coordinate transport schedules with procurement, warehousing, and sales teams. Implement supply chain best practices to improve operational efficiency and reduce bottlenecks and lead times. Financial Oversight Handle complete P&L responsibility for the transport division. Prepare and manage departmental budgets. Negotiate contracts with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and approve high-value tenders. Risk Management & Compliance Ensure adherence to local and international transport regulations, driver compliance, and workplace safety standards. Implement operational risk mitigation and compliance frameworks. Stakeholder & Vendor Management Develop and maintain strong relationships with shipping vendors, suppliers, and key corporate clients. Negotiate service agreements and optimize SLAs for operational excellence. Vehicle Maintenance Management Oversee preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for the transport fleet. Control repair and maintenance budgets while ensuring vehicle reliability and operational readiness. Team Leadership Lead, train, mentor, and develop transport staff including drivers, mechanics, and logistics coordinators. Build a high-performance and safety-focused operational culture.Education: Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field. Experience: 15+ years of progressive experience in transport, logistics, or supply chain management. Minimum 35 years in a senior leadership role. Experience in African markets such as Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, or Zambia will be an added advantage. Strong analytical and operational management skills with expertise in fleet management systems, fuel monitoring, mileage tracking, and maintenance cost optimization.
