General Manager

Job Description : General Manager Operations (Corrugated Box) KENYA · Directs full-cycle plant production, P&L, and business strategy. They optimize corrugator and converting workflows, manage supply chain risks, and drive continuous improvement to meet strict quality, safety, and financial targets. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership: · Oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations, including corrugating, flexo folder gluing, and rotary die-cutting processes. · Managing staff, ensuring production targets and quality standards are met, overseeing budgets and costs, and implementing safety protocols. · Keep an eye on production data, find areas that need improvement, and take action to make things work better. · Keep an eye on and manage production costs, including labor, materials, and equipment maintenance, to hit cost targets and maximize profits. P&L & Budgeting: · Take full accountability for the facility’s financial performance, operational budgets, cost control, and revenue growth. Quality & Waste Reduction: · Maintain strict board caliper and converting quality standards while identifying constraints to eliminate material waste. · Put in place quality control measures to make sure all boxes meet required standards and customer specifications. Continuous Improvement: · Establish metrics to optimize plant capacity, equipment uptime, and workflow efficiency. Safety & Compliance: · Ensure the factory operates in strict accordance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. · Make sure everyone follows safety rules and encourages a safety-conscious atmosphere in the plant. Team Management: · Recruit, train, and mentor production managers, shift supervisors, and floor staff to build a high-performing culture. Cross-Functional Alignment: · Coordinate with sales, logistics, and engineering teams to ensure on-time delivery and customer satisfaction. · Work closely with the procurement team to guarantee we have enough raw materials and maintain inventory levels. · Build and sustain relationships with important suppliers, vendors, and customers to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction. · Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in box manufacturing, and suggest and put into practice improvements as needed. Preferred candidate profile 1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial) or Business Administration with 15 to 20+ years of progressive plant operations and factory head experience specifically within the corrugated packaging or converting industry. In-depth knowledge of box manufacturing processes, equipment, and techniques. 2. Strong understanding of quality control principles and experience in implementing quality management systems. 3. Proficient in analyzing production data and using key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive improvements. 4. Deep understanding of paper grades (liner, medium), flute profiles, converting machinery, and ERP systems. 5. Proven ability to drive profitability, execute strategic plans, and resolve complex operational bottlenecks 6. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team towards achieving targets and objectives. 7. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and hands-on approach to addressing challenges. 8. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. 9. Proficient in using manufacturing software and systems to monitor and control production processes. 10. Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the manufacturing industry. 11. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers. 12. Proficiency in using computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software.
