20 yearsJob Description : Workshop Manager ZAMBIA – Hydraulic Engineering (Heavy Equipment – Mining & Earthmoving) Industry: Mining & Heavy Equipment Maintenance Start: Immediate the mechanical industry is looking for a highly experienced and hands-on Workshop Manager / Hydraulic Engineer to lead and manage a specialist hydraulic repair workshop. This role requires a strong technical leader who can take full ownership of workshop operations, with a particular focus on the repair and overhaul of dump truck suspension struts and hydraulic cylinders used in heavy equipment. Job Purpose The Workshop Manager will oversee the complete workshop function, including inspection, diagnosis, repair, testing, and quality assurance of hydraulic cylinders and dump truck struts. The role is responsible for ensuring all repairs meet strict technical standards while maintaining safety, efficiency, and profitability across workshop operations. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage daily workshop operations, supervising technicians, apprentices, and junior staff Diagnose faults and oversee the overhaul of hydraulic cylinders and dump truck suspension struts Ensure correct procedures for nitrogen charging, pressure testing, and contamination control are strictly followed Plan and schedule workshop jobs, allocate resources effectively, and ensure timely turnaround of repairs Control workshop costs, including spare parts usage and consumables management Enforce strict safety compliance, including lock-out/tag-out procedures and PPE adherence Liaise with customers on technical queries, repair progress updates, and complaint resolution Maintain accurate inspection reports, repair documentation, and quality assurance records Drive continuous improvement in productivity, safety performance, and quality standards Required Experience & Skills Minimum Requirements At least 15+ years’ experience in hydraulic repair within mining and heavy equipment environments Extensive hands-on experience rebuilding dump truck suspension struts and hydraulic cylinders Proven experience supervising workshop teams in high-pressure operational environments Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, contamination control, and pressure testing procedures Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and OEM repair specifications Experience operating workshop equipment such as lathes, honing machines, hydraulic test benches, and presses Key Competencies Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills Strong leadership and team development capability Excellent planning, scheduling, and operational coordination skills Strong cost control and workshop efficiency management Commitment to quality assurance and technical excellence Strong communication and customer service skills Safety-first mindset with strict compliance enforcement This is a critical leadership role requiring immediate availability. The ideal candidate must be technically exceptional, highly practical, and capable of taking full ownership of a busy hydraulic workshop. Only candidates with direct, proven experience in mining equipment—particularly dump truck strut and hydraulic cylinder repair—will be considered.
