Job Description : CFO TANZANIA 20+ years experience The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a strategic business partner and head of the financial division for a modern, large-scale Chlor-Alkali manufacturing facility in Tanzania. This role requires a rare combination of world-class corporate finance leadership and deep technical understanding of heavy chemical plant economics. The successful candidate will directly manage the financial complexities inherent to membrane cell electrolysis, including heavy power consumption pricing, electrochemical co-product margin balancing, intensive capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, and strict international and local East African tax compliance. Key Responsibilities Strategic Financial Management & Plant Economics Power Cost & Tariff Optimization: Monitor, model, and optimize the financial impact of electricity tariffs and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) on energy-intensive membrane cell electrolysis operations. Co-Product Margin Balancing: Develop dynamic variable costing and sensitivity models to balance profitability fluctuations across the electrochemical unit (ECU) output (Caustic Soda, Chlorine, and Hydrogen). CapEx & Lifecycle Asset Management: Oversee capital allocation, asset depreciation, and financial engineering for ongoing plant maintenance, upgrades, and cell-recoating cycles. Working Capital Optimization: Drive tight cash flow management strategies, factoring in long lead-time supply chains for critical chemical raw materials (e.g., high-purity salt, chemical additives) and specialized engineering spares. Mid-Scale Operational Efficiency: Direct the financial tracking and cost-efficiency optimization for a 45 TPD Chlorine (Bipolar Membrane Cell) plant. The candidate must demonstrate precise benchmarking of fixed vs. variable overheads tailored to mid-scale continuous chemical manufacturing. Localized Downstream Value Optimization: Formulate pricing and distribution margin models for a 45 TPD output, focusing on maximizing revenue from local water treatment, textile, and regional manufacturing off-takers in East Africa. ECU Balanced Budgeting: Manage the tight financial balancing of the Electrochemical Unit (ECU) at this specific capacity scale, ensuring that chlorine storage, safety compliance costs, and localized caustic distribution are perfectly optimized to maintain steady cash flow. Corporate Finance, Governance & Funding Banking & Treasury: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international financial institutions to secure competitive trade finance, working capital facilities, and project funding. Foreign Exchange Management: Implement proactive hedging strategies to protect the business against currency volatility between local East African currencies (TZS), USD, and INR. Risk & Compliance: Maintain full accountability for internal financial controls, risk management frameworks, and corporate governance standards. Accounting, Tax & Regulatory Compliance Local Tax Administration: Oversee robust compliance with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), covering corporate income tax, withholding tax (WHT), value-added tax (VAT) refunds, and customs/excise duties for dangerous goods. Financial Reporting: Direct the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements compliant with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Cost Accounting: Maintain an advanced cost-accounting system tailored to continuous-process chemical manufacturing, ensuring granular transparency into unit production costs Desired profile of the candidate Strategic and commercially astute finance executive with 15+ years of progressive leadership experience, including CFO or equivalent executive-level responsibility. Proven track record in industrial manufacturing, preferably chlor-alkali, heavy chemicals, petrochemicals, or other continuous process industries. Demonstrated expertise in corporate finance, capital raising, investment management, treasury, financial planning, and enterprise risk management. Strong experience engaging with Boards of Directors, investors, banks, development finance institutions, and other key stakeholders. Deep understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, IFRS, financial governance, and ERP-enabled finance operations. Proven ability to lead high-performing finance teams, drive business transformation, and support organizational growth in a multicultural environment. High integrity, strategic mindset, excellent leadership, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related discipline Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) or equivalent premier global accounting certification (CPA/ACCA) / An MBA in Finance from a top-tier institution is highly desirable.
