Job Description : Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) Location: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania Reports to: Chairman, CEO & COO Summary: The Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) will lead the organization’s growth strategy, driving market expansion, strategic partnerships, business diversification, new investment opportunities, and revenue growth across Tanzania and Africa. The role will develop and execute long-term business strategies, identify emerging markets and opportunities, and build strong relationships with key stakeholders, government institutions, international organizations, and industry partners within the logistics, clearing & forwarding, CFS, and transport infrastructure sectors. Key Responsibilities: • Develop and execute long-term growth strategies focused on market penetration, revenue growth, business diversification, new investments, and market leadership. • Assess existing and emerging markets to identify new business opportunities, optimize resource allocation, and strengthen competitive positioning. • Build and manage a robust strategic business pipeline, identifying opportunities across new sectors, allied services, and complementary business areas. • Develop high-level strategic partnerships with government institutions, international organizations, corporate organizations, industry stakeholders, and key clients. • Identify and lead inorganic growth opportunities, including M&A, joint ventures, strategic alliances, market-entry initiatives, and sector repositioning. • Drive revenue and profitability growth through pricing strategies, sales optimization, innovative business models, and expansion of Logistics, Clearing & Forwarding, Container Freight Station (CFS), and related services. • Translate strategic vision into actionable execution roadmaps, aligning business development with risk, capital models, KPIs, financial performance, ROI, and operational priorities. • Drive sustainable growth and future readiness, targeting 10–15% annual growth in turnover and profitability, while integrating business development with ESG, digital transformation, resilience, and long-term corporate strategy. Key Requirements: • MBA or equivalent business qualification is preferred • 15+ years of experience in the logistics, transportation, freight forwarding, or related industry, with significant East Africa experience being mandatory. • Proven track record of driving both top-line and bottom-line growth, preferably within a high-growth or transformation-focused business. • Strong techno-commercial expertise, combining business development, commercial strategy, operational understanding, and technical knowledge of transportation/logistics. • Strong understanding of the East African market, industry dynamics, customer landscape, and regulatory environment. • Willingness to travel within Tanzania as required.
