Job Description : CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER – SPECIALTY COFFEE | EAST AFRICA ???? We are looking for an experienced Chief Operating Officer – Specialty Coffee for our client in East Africa. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a hands-on specialty coffee & roasting professional who can build and scale a roastery while maintaining strong quality, operational and financial discipline. ???? WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR ? 10+ years of relevant experience in specialty coffee / coffee roasting / roastery operations ? Strong hands-on expertise across the complete roastery business ? Green coffee sourcing, evaluation & supplier management ? Roasting profiles, production & quality control ? Cupping & sensory analysis ? Inventory, costing & stock control ? Sales, distribution & customer management ? Budgeting, margins, cash management & profitability ? Strong commercial & financial acumen ? Experience building lean, efficient and high-performing teams ? Q Grader or equivalent recognised coffee sensory qualification is highly desirable. ???? THE MANDATE The COO will be responsible for establishing and leading the roastery’s operating platform, including: • Operating model & organisational structure • SOPs & operational systems • Roasting, production & QC systems • Procurement & supplier management • Inventory & costing controls • Budgets & financial reporting • KPIs & performance management • CAPEX & investment decisions • Team building & productivity • Commercial performance & sustainable growth The ideal candidate must think like an operator AND a business owner. Our client is building a lean, financially disciplined and scalable organisation. Every hire, process and investment must add measurable value. The successful COO must therefore be highly hands-on, commercially minded, cost-conscious and focused on profitability without compromising specialty coffee quality. ????
